Q&A
When does the comic update?
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Every seventh strip is done Sunday-style, meaning I make it bigger and try to include all four of the main characters. (Actually, I usually forget about that last bit.)
How is the comic made?
I draw and color the comic on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet PC, using CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO with built-in inking brushes and some of Ray Frenden‘s watercolor brushes.
Do you attend comic conventions?
It depends. I’ve done five so far, mixed between Salt Lake Comicon and Planet Comicon in Kansas City, Missouri, and I’m kinda ambivalent about them. If there’s somewhere you’d like to see me, let me know and I’ll try to make it happen.
I read your comic on [other website]. Why is it posted in so many different places?
I’m just trying to reach a bigger audience, and part of that is publishing on multiple platforms. Here on my personal site, though, we’re a few strips ahead, they’re presented horizontally as if in a newspaper, and I post the full Sunday-style strips that won’t fit on those other sites.
Why do you post a Chinese translation of the comic?
I taught English in China’s Gansu province for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, so it’s a special place for me. I posted the first 60 strips in bad Mandarin Chinese so my friends and students in China could laugh at all my mistakes. You can see them here.
I heard this is, like, a reboot or something?
I originally made dinosaur kid comics starting at the end of 2012, then trailed off when I joined the Peace Corps. You can still see the old comics on another part of this website here, but know that the writing and the artwork are less developed. I’d rather you start right here, in 2017.
Are you working on any other projects besides dinosaur kid?
Always and forever. But it’s hard to find time for those on top of this and my day job.
Can I commission some artwork from you?
I spend most of my drawing time on dinosaur kid, but if you’ve got a really cool idea or opportunity, send me an email and we can talk about it.
If I really like dinosaur kid and want to support you, how can I do that?
Right now I’m not producing merchandise or asking fans of the comic to donate anything. If you really want to help out, just share the comic with other people.
