So, a friend pointed out to me that it looks like Octopus Kid has just been savagely beaten by the Beak Banshee, and it just happened offscreen. YIKES. Not my intention. Octopus Kid’s lumps are the result of her self-sacrificing sodasplosion, not any sort of horrible adult-on-child violence. This is the kind of stuff I overlook when no one sees these comics before I post them, unfortunately.
Anyway, I’m playing with new ways to use the watercolors. I’ve wanted to do something about the comic’s oversaturation pretty much since I started coloring it, and I’m also trying to get rid of the chunkier, unwatery textures. Here’s an experiment I did with just paints, no water-soluble crayons or pencils. What do you think?
It might look a little unsaturated right now (especially Octopus Kid, she could use a second layer), but I feel like after a full story in this style, I’d prefer it. The backgrounds would be super easy if I wasn’t awkwardly inking every distant detail.
